UPCOMING FORUMS-  Please show your support!

A huge area of concern for families within our Walter Johnson school cluster is the increase in residential development in the area and its future impact on our schools-- this includes Rock Spring, Grosvenor Heights, Toll Brothers WMAL radio tower site, Pike and Rose, and White Flint, in addition to the redevelopment trend of older homes in our area...  Take for example Ashburton elementary school which has grown from 650 students in 2007 to over 900 this year representing a 57% increase.  The schools are bursting at the seams, with portables being added to handle the volume, and school additions in the works for many of the schools including a possible addition at Walter Johnson to bring its capacity closer to 3200.

The Walter Johnson Cluster Roundtable Discussion Group will be considering facility options to address near-term and long-term enrollment increases in the Walter Johnson Cluster.  NBMS, along with other schools in our cluster, has representatives on the Roundtable.   Information on the Roundtable, including background materials and a schedule of meetings, is available here at come and show your support for these upcoming meetings both at the above link, as well as below.  All meetings are open to the public, and there will be time at the end of each meeting for questions from the public.

NBMS has also set up meetings to share approaches and gather feedback from the NBMS community.

  • Information session at NBMS on March 8, 2016 at 7:30pm in the Media Center
  • Information session at NBMS on April 12, 2016 at 7:30 pm in the Media Center

Care Cash Cashier Sign-up

Are you interested in signing up to be a Friday "Care Cash Volunteer" in the new year?   Read on about this fun, volunteer opportunity at NBMS! NBMS appreciates your support!

The MCPS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) places an emphasis on school wide systems of support, and proactive strategies to encourage positive behavior and create a positive school environment.  NBMS students earn Care Cash by demonstrating positive behaviors in the school environment. Students can redeem their Care Cash each Friday during the lunch periods for a variety of prizes, privileges and treats.

We are seeking Parent Volunteers to assist with the Friday Care Cash redemption during the NBMS lunch periods.  Volunteers will be assisting with the program from about 10:30am until 12:45pm (on a Friday).   The Care Cash Parent Volunteers will be working with 2 other parent volunteers, as well as Mrs. Kopnitsky, one of the NBMS Assistant Principals. The volunteers will be working in the role of a Care Cash Cashier.

Media Center Help Needed:

The NBMS Media Center could use your help!  Know your alphabet?  Always wanted to work with the Dewey Decimal System?  The Media Center needs adult volunteers willing to shelve books and work on other library tasks.  Two hours a week or every other week would be greatly appreciated.  A library is a great place to be!  Contact the Media Specialist, Ms. Christine Hafer at and thanks in advance!

Note that events are subject to change so please check back into this website often.  We will also notify you of any changes via our listservs and our Facebook page, so please join them (go to our "Links" section to find directions on how to join them).
