How you can help the NBMS PTSA (and why you should)

Take a moment to get involved and help lay the groundwork for your children as they prepare for a successful middle school and high school experience.  Parent involvement helps to give you an inside view of the school, its teachers, administrators, staff and students, as well as an opportunity to meet and work with other families in our school cluster.

We invite you to take the one-meeting/two hour pledge.  Commit to attending at least one NBMS PTSA business, networking or education meeting during the year and devoting at least two hours of your time to a NBMS PTSA activity or event.

We have a lot of fun PTSA sponsored activities and community events scheduled throughout the year.  Click on the link at the bottom of the page to get the most recent list of NBMS PTSA Committee chairs, and their email addresses.  Please take a moment to contact them and let them know you are interested in helping plan and/or volunteering for their event.

Current PTSA Event Volunteer Opportunities:

Check out the calendar and/or announcements sections for the latest PTSA activities and events.  We are always looking for volunteers to help run and/or help out at these fun community building events.  For more information on which committee chair to contact, please send a note to Marianne Oursler, our VP PTSA Student Activities Director, at activities@nbms-ptsa.org
Additional Volunteer and Fundraising opportunities throughout the year:

Friday Care Cash Cashier Sign-up - The MCPS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) places an emphasis on school wide systems of support, and proactive strategies to encourage positive behavior and create a positive school environment.  NBMS students earn Care Cash by demonstrating such positive behaviors.  Students can then redeem their Care Cash every Friday during the lunch periods for a variety of prizes, privileges, and treats.  We are seeking parent volunteers to assist with the Friday Care Cash redemption during these lunch periods.  Volunteers will be assisting with the program, alongside two other parent volunteers on Fridays from about 10:30 am to 12:45 pm. Go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084eafab28a46-20162017 to sign up.

Media Center Help - The NBMS Media Center could use your help!  Know your alphabet?  Always wanted to work with the Dewey Decimal System?  The Media Center needs adult volunteers willing to shelve books and work on other library tasks.  Two hours a week or every other week would be greatly appreciated.  A library is a great place to be!  Contact the Media Specialist, Ms. Christine Hafer at Christine_C_Hafer@mcpsmd.org.

Scholastic Book Fair - Help will be needed for the book fair which will take place October 17 to 21st this year.  More information to follow.

Box Top Collection Drive - This year NBMS will be participating in the Box Tops for Education program.  Clipping box tops is an easy way to for you to help our school buy what it needs.  Box Tops are worth 10 cents and they quickly add up to cash for NBMS.  Please look for the pink "Box Tops" on participating products, and clip and hold on to for now until you get email instructions on when and where to turn them in.  Go to http://www.boxtops4education.com/participating-products for more information on the program and eligible products.

Loyalty Card Program -

Giant A+ School Rewards:  If you need a Giant loyalty card, please stop by the store’s customer service counter or apply online for a card at https://giantfood.com/ (click the blue REGISTER button on the top right of the screen).  If you already have a Giant loyalty card, you must sign into your online account at https://giantfood.com/ (click the blue SIGN IN button on the top right of the screen – please note, if you have not created an online Giant Food account, you will first have to REGISTER).  Then click the “Rewards & Savings” tab, go the A+ School link, and either choose North Bethesda Middle School from the drop down menu or enter NBMS’s group code, which is 03709.  You do not have to re-link your card if you linked it to NBMS last year.  Please note that you must go online and link your card through your online account.  Giant no longer allows the Loyalty Card Coordinator to register other people’s cards.

Harris Teeter Together In Education Program:  If you need a Harris Teeter VIC card, please stop by the store’s customer service counter. You can link your card to NBMS yourself online at https://www.harristeeter.com/together-in-education using the “Link Your School Today” tab or, the next time you shop at Harris Teeter, simply give the cashier your VIC card and NBMS’s code, 1095, and the cashier will link your card to NBMS for the entire school year.  You must re-link your Harris Teeter card yearly.  If you would like the PTSA to link your Harris Teeter VIC card, please email Marci Norton at marcibnorton@gmail.com with the first 11 digits on your VIC card (beginning with the number 4), your last name, and the 10-digit phone number associated with your Harris Teeter account.  Please note that the money provided to schools by Harris Teeter is a percentage of Harris Teeter brand products purchased.
