Email from Principal Smith about events today - May 8, 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you about two incidents that occurred today, May 8.

This morning, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a student was in distress and threatened to harm himself. School administration responded to the classroom, moved students to another classroom and contacted the Crisis Center to provide assistance to the student. We activated a Shelter-in-Place to restrict movement in the building so the Montgomery County Police and Crisis team could attend to the student.

Shortly after that incident as students dismissed from 7th grade lunch, a student was in the hallway and yelled out a sentence that included the word “gun”. A staff member heard this and promptly moved students into classrooms and notified administration. The school went into lockdown at approximately 12:15 out of an abundance of caution. MCPD and members of our security team were on site and quickly determined that the threat was non-credible. The lockdown was lifted.

I want to thank our partners in the Montgomery County Police Department for responding quickly to our school to ensure student safety. All students and staff are safe and we have resumed our normal instructional day. Please contact the school at 240-740-2100 if you have any questions or e-mail me directly at annemarie_e_smith@mcpsmd.org.

Sincerely,

AnneMarie K. Smith, Ed.D.
